I do not like how in his slam poetry, the poet names several people who were successful without college. They are the exception, not the rule. In my view, school is a necessary evil. Would one trust an electrician who had no experience? Or a doctor who had no degree? I think not. While school can most often be a tightened noose, allowing students to choose classes can loosen it.
Oh my goodness, you are awesome Eric. I love that you have the strength of self confidence to disagree with the poem. You're right that the people he refers to are indeed exceptions. Your noose metaphor is fabulous. Perfect.
